Marble Floor in Garfield Bathroom

Posted: December 1, 2008 in Ceramic Tile & Stone, Projects By: admin

This bathroom was completely remodeled. The homeowner did the framing and drywall work, but called me to install the 16″ marble floor and shower. A layer of Hardibacker underlayment was used as a substrate for the marble floor. Hardibacker effectively separates the marble from the subfloor. This separation keeps movements in the subfloor from being transferred through to the marble.

The marble is installed in an offset pattern on the floor and in the shower. There are many types of pattern installations, and they can greatly enhance the look and feel of your project. Most patterns are available for a small charge.

Schluter Kerdi waterproofing membrane was installed in the shower (check out the shower part of this project). The homeowner finished the bathroom with a large (and very heavy) one-piece vanity with a granite top and two sinks. The tub (even heavier) is a cast iron clawfoot with an antique style valve and sprayer.

very informative blog. I think marble is an excellent medium to explore both for functionality and design. Marble tiling is dense and strong, easy to clean, long lasting and does not absorb smell, water or carry allergens. I tiled my whole house which was done by Ciciliot and Son who are professional in this regard
