July 12, 2010 | Ceramic Tile & Stone, Projects, Showers & Tubs | By: Kman
This is a project that started with a conventional shower in a home in Northwest Arkansas. The shower was built improperly with sub-standard methods. The result was that the shower leaked from the first day it was used, and continued to leak for the next four years until water began dripping through the basement ceiling. The worst thing about a leaking shower is that it is almost impossible to repair and requires extensive demolition.
Let’s start with the shower as I found it (more…)

Here are pictures of a wood floor that was recently refinished. The living room originally had wood in a width of two feet around the perimeter of the room. The remaining floor (approximately 260 sq. ft.) was carpet. The carpet and underlayment was removed and replaced with unfinished wood flooring. The new wood was sanded, stained, and finished with polyurethane. The existing wood floor in the living room, kitchen, and dining room was (more…)

Here a some pictures of wood flooring in a house in Missouri. This particular wood is 2¼” wide pre-finished Hickory in random lengths. The wood is 3/4″ thick solid and was nailed to the subfloor with over 17,000 nails! It’s not going anywhere.
Hickory is a dense wood that resists dents from spike heels, chair legs, etc. The great thing about this type of wood is that it doesn’t show (more…)

Hardwood & Tile Replaces Carpet and Vinyl in Campbell
In the pictures below you will see where we removed the carpet and vinyl from every room in the house (except the master bedroom, which will be done later) and we also replaced the subfloor. The old subfloor was particle board which had water damage and wasn’t very sturdy to begin with.

Below are before and after pictures of a tile installation in Northeast Arkansas. This is actually a 2000 square foot building that is used as a fellowship hall by a small church. I began this job by applying Redgard to areas of the concrete that had small cracks. Redgard is used a crack suppression membrane to keep cracks in the concrete slab from transferring through to the tile.

The following pictures show a tile installation in the basement of a home in Bella Vista, Arkansas. After the water heater leaked, a complete tear-out of the carpet was required. Tile was the obvious choice, due to its durability. Another leaking water heater won’t affect this floor. Extending the tile up the wall was an after-thought. There are two different types of stone border installed, since we couldn’t find enough of either kind to do the entire basement. This totally changed (more…)

Casual Warmth with Distressed-Look Hardwood in the Livingroom
This is the living room of a local residence where I installed wood flooring in 5″ planks. The flooring has a “distressed” look with natural knots and marks (notice the black streaks) that gives the floor a rustic look. This particular floor is available in different shades to suit your taste. A living room such as this one can be installed in less than two days!
Does your house have (more…)
